Water Fasting:Flush Out Toxins
With Many Types Of
Alternative Medicine

Water fasting does differ greatly from a juice based plan because your body is getting absolutely no nutrients for the entire duration of the program. Normally, most health professionals in most types of alternative medicine will admit their patient to a hospital or clinic for around the clock observation during the entire period of a water fast.

Common Symptoms

Low to no activity is one of the predominant factors in this type of fast. Activity must be severely restricted to short infrequent walks, plenty of rest breaks during them, and bed rest periodically during each day to conserve energy. Since your fat levels will be broken down quickly (with no nutrients being provided, your body will start breaking down fat stores very quickly for energy), this leads to weak arm and leg muscles or heart palpitations. If you already have any type of heart condition, most of your symptoms will become more pronounced. Loss of body heat is also normal due to a reduction in your blood pressure so dress warmly to prevent chills during a fast.

Also common signs will be dizziness, headaches, bad breath and bad body odor, weakness in all extremities and nausea. All of these are signs your body is releasing the build-up of toxins from your system. It is important though that you do not reach for any over-the-counter pain remedies to dull the discomfort or pain. This is defeating the whole purpose of the fast.

And finally, the most uncomfortable for most people is the hunger pangs. Our body's are programmed to expect food at certain intervals. When we do not receive it, the body has a painful way of letting you know. For the first 2-3 days, whenever you feel that intense hunger drink some more water, approximately 4-8 eight ounce glasses per day and start an activity to take your mind off the unrelenting symptoms. After taking some more water, the feelings of urgency will pass.

Although juice and water fasting do require an initial consultation with a doctor to get a physical exam, this procedure is for your benefit to confirm your general health status and set up safety parameters prior to starting any fast. Your current health is going to determine the length of the fast, type of fast, changes in any medications or dosages, or just whether any vitamin or mineral supplementation will be required. Water fasting is the most intense type of fast for your body to handle the stressors, so your physician may tell you to not start this therapy if the likelihood exists of achieving undesirable results.
