Homeopathic Medicine:
Building Influence By Many
Types Of Alternative Medicine

The field of Homeopathic Medicine is honored by the perseverance of a gentleman with the title of "Founder of Homeopathy", Mr Samuel Christian Hahnemann. He was often ridiculed and maligned for years before anyone in the medical community actually took notice that what he said often does work. But eventually perseverance in his beliefs made people realize homeopathy and other types of alternative medicine could and actually do work where other programs of the day seemingly failed miserably.

In the medical community, it makes no sense that a cure is possible by using such minute doses of a disease that when tested in a laboratory no traces of the disease can even be found in the sample. But generation after generation of people have used his principles and directives only to get a reward of positive results.

Any good practicing physician knows homeopathic medicine has its limitations and it demands the availability of conventional medicine in some situations. In serious, acute emergency situations conventional medicine is a must. All life threatening conditions demand the urgency of a hospital's emergency room, surgery and testing procedures. But with common ailments (colds and flu) and many chronic conditions (diabetes, arthritis, asthma and allergies), a partnership between alternative medicine and conventional medicine will generally yield far superior results over just using one method by itself.

One of the biggest stumbling blocks people have difficulty understanding when accepting homeopathic medicine (or any naturopathic remedy) is that the remedies are not supposed to dull the pain, lower the fever, get rid of the headache or control the diarrhea when first starting on a treatment program. All of these signs or symptoms is just your body's way of showing you it is attempting to return to its normal state. By ridding yourself of the affliction internally you are actually facilitating a cure of the disease or illness, instead of masking the symptoms for now with a great probability another outbreak will occur within days, weeks or at a later date.

Types Of Conditions Which Respond Well To Homeopathy

As stated earlier, true emergencies require immediate care - head for the hospital. But homeopathic medicine can effectively treat the following:

  • Accidents and Injuries or many external events- burns, bruises, cuts, insect bites, sprains and strains, fractures or the ease of healing after dental surgery or regular surgery

  • Acute Illness- refers to the sudden onset of a condition which will run its course and then go away. These include colds, flu, bronchitis, tonsillitis, ear infection, sunstroke, hangover or even exhaustion from overwork. Other than the incidence of the symptoms occuring because of any of these, you are still generally in good health.

  • Chronic Disease- is a different set of circumstances. This group has an on-going list of symptoms- often repetitive- where the signs will get worse or accumulate more as time goes by. Diagnosis through conventional medicine is often possible but after treatment, many times the person still feels extreme tiredness, low energy or a continuous circle of ups and downs. This group includes conditions such as PMS, arthritis, rheumatism, depression, ADHD or ADD, autism and diabetes.

Deciding On A Course of Treatment

A homeopathic physician knows from the outset every person he or she sees is different. Six people may be lined up all complaining of symptoms of a severe head cold and yet 6 different treatment plans will be set up and monitored for effectiveness. All remedies and treatment plans in homeopathic medicine try to match three areas of each individual's personal health, habits and lifestyle factors.

An initial consultation with a doctor therefore can take 1-2 hours. The physical symptoms, mental and emotional symptoms along with a thorough understanding of lifestyle, habits, diet etc. are all considered important information. All of this information is used to set up an effective treatment program. Remember, the aim here is not to mask the symptoms but to promote healing from the body's inner core. Once a treatment plan has been devised and it is proving effective, most of the time all of the follow-up is done as an at-home health care program. Continuous repeated doctor's visits is almost always unnecessary in homeopathic medicine.
