Home Allergy Testing:
Time And Patience With Many
Types Of Alternative Medicine

If you think you have a food allergy but you would prefer to do some home allergy testing instead of seeing a doctor, the quickest and easiest way to determine if there really is a problem is just by listening to what your body is telling you. A possible food allergy trigger can usually be detected by starting a log and adding information to it every time you eat anything. All of this information should be collected and taken to a practitioner for a full diagnosis from many of the types of alternative medicine.

To develop your own personal log, include the following information:

  • Date
  • Time you eat
  • What you eat
  • What you smell
  • What you touch
  • Any comments/symptoms

Fill in each of these columns everyday, notating anything you feel might be important. After a few days to weeks, you will probably start noticing similarities. In this way you can start testing food items yourself by eliminating them from your diet and see if those symptoms disappear. You have now started your own personal home allergy testing program.

What Is The Food Challenge Diet

After your initial trial and error program and you have narrowed down your list to some possible allergy triggers, completely remove these items from your diet for the next 4-5 days. The idea here is you must give your system time to completely eliminate this food product from your system. On the fifth day, introduce back only one of one suspected food allergy triggers. This will be the only thing you eat this day during your home allergy testing phase.

An example is, if you believe you are sensitive to milk, for this day drink some milk, have some cottage cheese, cheese cubes, a container of yogurt a bowl of vanilla ice cream etc.. Continue this the whole day. Remember this does not mean have a pizza or cheeseburgers (they have cheese on them). You must stay as close to your allergen as possible. If you are sensitive to milk, you will probably notice a reaction within an hour or two of eating your first item that day. Depending on your sensitivity level, you may notice slight variances all during that day.

Whatever your problem foods, keep rotating this schedule. After a test day, take four more days off and then test number 2 suspected allergen. Repeatedly eat this item for one day exactly like you did your last allergen. Log all pertinent results.

Evaluation of Results

For the best possible results from your home allergy test, try to include the following ideas into your daily agenda:

  • always sit in a chair or recliner and leave any stressful environment before you take your first bite

  • Take your pulse at your wrist before your first bite, eat your meal, wait 15 minutes and take your pulse again at the wrist. Log this information.

  • Log any symptoms, impressions or changes as you notice them all day. Do not worry now if you feel it has nothing to do with an allergy. If it's different and you feel it- log it.

When you have finished all of your suspected food allergens, take this information to your family doctor or any practicing physician for a final dianosis.

Remember though, a home allergy testing program can only be followed if you do not have any kind of major allergic reaction. Some people are highly sensitive to certain products. If you believe this is your case, do not ever undertake this procedure at home away from all emergency medical personnel. Your desire to eliminate the doctor from your program can cost you your life.
