Home Allergy Testing Drawbacks:
Reducing The Odds In Many
Types Of Alternative Medicine

Because you have decided to do self-testing, there are some home allergy testing drawbacks which can become hurdles which must be overcome. Self-testing itself is only the starting point in this process. The final diagnosis must be made by a licensed practitioner from one of the types of alternative medicine.

Most at-home methods are very time consuming and your diet may become very restrictive. Most people do have good intentions when starting but with time and temptation facing them every day, good intentions are usually worn down as the novelty wears off.

Common Home Allergy Testing Drawbacks

Some of the common hurdles which must be overcome during this test are beyond the scope of a layman's capabilities to control. Therefore, after starting your program, if you notice any of these, terminate your testing and head for a doctor.

  • Lack of obvious symptoms- if you have started your program, are going through all of your suspected allergens and you notice no symptoms or no change in any of your symptoms, terminate your program. If you have a chronic stuffy nose, wheezing, hives, abdominal discomfort etc and nothing changed, then you have nothing to judge any symptoms on.

  • False negatives are a very real risk. Many people do not realize a food sensitivity might not be created by one food group only. You can eat pizza regularly but if you combine that with a glass of milk, Whamo!, you now have a reaction. Most people though will just center on the pizza being the cause.

Another common occurance is the day you have the pizza could have been a very demanding day at work, you could have had one slice too many, your own immune system may be down because of a slight illness etc.. The outcome here could have just been the fault of extenuating circumstances- it really might not have been the pizza at all. The spices just might have tipped you over the edge after a hard day.

  • If you are using or did take a common over the counter antihistamine or anti-inflammatory (Motrin, Aleve Advil etc.) the same day as your testing, you may receive a false positive

  • Just because you feel out of sorts, down or depressed might not be a food sensitivity, maybe you are just coming down with a cold

  • Most food allergy symptoms can be delayed if it is not a severe allergy. The offending food could have been ate one or two days ago and you are just now noticing the symptoms. Now you have to figure out what you ate 1-2 days ago.

As you can see, many variables come into play with food allergy testing. Each of these factors have to be taken into consideration and eliminated as a variable.

Also a final word of caution. Never attempt this program to determine if you can prevent any home allergy testing drawbacks if you currently have asthma, angioedema, epilepsy, an already diagnosed food allergy, plus any mental or emotional disturbance. In these situations, medical supervision is a priority because of an increased risk of anaphylactic shock.
