Fasting:To Improve Health
Thru Many Types
Of Alternative Medicine

Fasting, as an option in many types of alternative medicine therapy, can be used for a wide range of conditions but for the majority of them the treatment program must be set up and monitored by a licensed practicing professional. Often, after several sessions with guidance and practice from your doctor, an effective, low cost program can be instituted which allows you to follow the plan from your own home.

Detoxification

Abstaining from food is considered a method of detoxification. This is simply allowing your body's digestive system a 2-5 day break by giving it some "time off" from digesting foods. This will then accelerate the elimination of toxins from your body. The principle here is, if you are not ingesting solids, your body has the opportunity to digest what is already in the body and then clear out any toxins from each of the major organs. This then gives your immune system time for some healing.

Lemon and water fasting is one of the ways to remove toxins from your body. Again, for newcomers to a detoxification program, run this by your doctor first to verify there is no contra-indications to your starting this program

How Food Allergies Can Benefit

Refraining from eating for food allergies is always done under the supervision of the doctor. The length of the abstainment can often result in about 2 or more weeks being needed to obtain accurate results. After the elimination of foods for a short period within the first week, a slow but gradual re-introduction of foods is used to test for a return of symptoms. Any abnormalities, these are your allergen triggers.

Under no conditions should a beginner abstain from food for more than 3 days without the advice of a doctor. The human body does have certain daily requirements. When this fuel source has been lost from the foods you consume, your body must go look elsewhere. It adjusts by pulling from the "stores" in other major organs. Without regulation, unforeseen heart problems can lead to death.

Cautions

Certain pre-existing medical conditions do prevent some people from attempting a fast for medicinal purposes. Do not ever start going without food if you have any of the following without checking with your doctor first. You will be kept under strict observation the entire time because of the large chance of adverse reactions:

  • Diabetes

  • Any eating disorder

  • Epilepsy

  • Hypochondria

  • Kidney disease

  • Malnutrition

  • Pregnancy

  • Lactation (breastfeeding)

  • Bronchial asthma

  • Terminal illness

  • Tuberculosis

  • Ulcerative colitis

Every one of these conditions depend on scheduled food and nutrients being received for your health. By changing to a temporary food abstaining program, prescription drug dosages will need to be monitored and changed as necessary. It is almost a 100% certainty that your current dosage will have to be adjusted or even removed, often this can happen even on the short fast. Be sure to play it safe, and advise your current medical team of your intentions first before proceeding.
