Detoxification Diet: Flushing The System Types Of Alternative Medicine
While you are under a doctor's care with many types of alternative medicine, a lengthy detoxification diet will generally not be started unless you are already healthy and have a good digestive system. Some withdrawal symptoms are normal but if the symptoms seem very strong and disabling you need to see your doctor immediately. Over time, no matter how careful you eat, toxins do build up in your system. Many people, once or twice a year, will take up to 4 weeks and detox their system. The ideal time to start this, even on just a one week program per year, is in the spring or summer months. For beginners though, unless under supervised care, never follow this program for longer than 5 days. Standard Detoxification DietFirst, a detox diet is not necessarily the same as fasting. Fasting is the absence of all solid foods. A detox diet is the restriction of many types of foods in Chinese Medicine. Low allergenic and easy to digest foods are common on a detox diet. During this time your body is still getting a high concentration of vitamin, minerals and nutrients, but it is only in the types of foods your body can process and digest much faster. The standard detoxification diet used in Chinese medicine ( generally recognized as the gold standard diet because of centuries of use) relies on the foods from seven food groups. Anything not on this list is off-limits for the 4 weeks. - Vegetables- you may have as many as you want but only 50% should be raw. Steamed or lightly stir-fried are mandatory. Each serving must be prepared and ate to order. Do not re-heat any leftovers.
- Whole grains such as rice, barley, quinoa, buckwheat, kasha, amaranth and rice wild are acceptable.
- Dried beans, seeds and nuts(no peanuts)
- Fish- except no shellfish
- Oils-olive, sesame, flax, hemp seed and walnut oil are acceptable
- Rice or oat milk
- 2 eggs per week
- Organic sea salt and black pepper for seasoning or any oil from your safe list
Although there is many variations of this program from different practitioner's, all seem to use this as a general outline. Because of your current health and circumstances, different foods may be added or removed depending on the results you are trying to achieve. General Guidelines For The Best ResultsRules and procedures- everything has them. By following the suggested guidelines here, you can obtain the best results from your detoxification diet.- Chew-Chew-Chew!! For every bite you take chew at least 24-36 times per bite. Two reasons for this. #1 is to ease the food through your digestive system faster and #2 is the better you chew, the vitamins, minerals and nutrients your body can retain from every bite. Larger pieces of unchewed food will speed through the digestive system without your body being capable of breaking down every particle, thus a loss of nutrients.
- Do not eat on the run: Sit---Relax---Chew.
- Make your primary diet for the four weeks fresh steamed vegetables and salad greens. Some of the others can be mixed in occasionally for variety.
- Rely on herbal teas for thirst, especially after your last meal of the day.
Therefore, a detoxification diet is like a spring cleaning for your digestive system. It helps you to maintain good health and a stronger immune system by eliminating a lot of the toxic build-up present in our everyday lives.
