Chiropractic Medicine:
Hands on Therapy With
Types Of Alternative Medicine

Chiropractic medicine is the treatment of the spine, joints and soft tissues through the use of manual manipulations. In some early civilizations, there is documented evidence of a more forceful type of manipulation being done with the feet as the treatment of choice in types of alternative medicine. This form is still being practiced in some areas today.

History Of Chiropractic As A Therapy

Chiropractic treatments themselves can be traced back to as early as 2700 BC in some written documents found by missionaries. These documents show pictures of practitioners using hands on therapy. Many other countries world-wide also have written documents through the ages defining different methods of treating the spine and neck with hands or feet manipulation. No one though seemed to have tried to define the art as a medicinal treatment until the late 1800's.

Principles Of Chiropractic Medicine

Because the science of chiropractic believes all bodily functions for optimum health are dependent on the central nervous system, manual manipulation is used to remove any stress and re-balance any affected joints, muscles and nerves in the area.

The central nervous system itself is made up of the brain and our spinal cord. All of body's major systems are directly controlled by the smooth operation of the central nervous system. Any in-balances therefore directly results in a compromised immune system thus leading to greater chances of illness and disease. Because of its effectiveness, back aches, headaches or any trauma to a joint or soft tissue area is commonly treated with manual manipulation.

Unlike conventional medicine, chiropractic medicine never uses any drugs or surgical methods. Several different techniques are used per the preference of the practitioner, but all still rely on the use of hands to re-align spinal positions to return the body to a normal healthy condition.

Up to the current decade, chiropractic as a field of medicine has been in a continuous struggle with conventional medicine to be granted acceptance as a contributing form of medicine in treating many conditions of the spinal column, neck and cranial disruptions. The general public has long utilized the services of the chiropractic field of medicine due to the positive results obtained, often being far superior to conventional therapy.

Within the last decade, chiropractic therapy has been issued validity in the United States and the United Kingdom. Government accredited universities, state licensing of all practicing chiropractors, and the acceptance of testimony in the US courts, sports programs and hospitals has all given chiropractic medicine a seal of approval for which they have fought long and hard to acquire.
