Buying Organics:

One Road To Better Health Thru
Types Of Alternative Medicine

Many people shy away from buying organics because of the increased costs on most fresh produce, meats and dairy products. But as more and more people are beginning to understand, the increase in cost now can lead to lower costs in medical care in the future.

Which do you think is more cost effective? Paying an extra $1.00 per pound now or spending the last 30 or 40 or 50 years of your life on one or more prescription drugs to maintain your blood pressure, lower your cholesterol levels, stabilize your blood sugars, prevent blocked arteries and reduce the signs of numerous cancerous tumors.

Knowing How Buying Organics Can Be Made Easy

Take a trip to the grocery store these days and read all the labels on a front package. Everyone is trying to convince you their product is the best for your health. With words like "all natural", "straight from the farm" or "made with organic ingredients", these and many others are there to tempt you to purchase their product.

Follow these guidelines to be sure you are truly getting some real organic produce, meat or dairy product. Just remember though, because one ingredient on the ingredient list is organic does not mean the other five, ten or more ingredients are also organic.

  • All certified organic products will be labeled with a seal which is marked certified organic. True certified organic regulations mean no synthetic pesticides and herbicides, GMO seeds, or fertilizers made from human sewage can be used on the crop, the soil or in harvesting or processing.

  • In the animal husbandry industry, all dairy animals, laying chickens (for eggs) and the meat industry must use certified organic feed and grains, fresh grass/pasture land and also confirm no animals had antibiotics or artificial growth hormones ever used in their life

  • Be sure you understand the terms "natural" and "all-natural" when buying organics. These terms are mis-leading to many people. The use of either of these terms is not the same thing as certified organic.

Conventional farming methods have different levels of farming practices that different farmers use and some shy away from. Some farmers stay away from the toxic chemicals which have been shown to cause ADHD, obesity, Autism, infertility plus many other reported conditions. But then they have no problem using hexane-based (gasoline) solvents during the growing stage.

Also, many farmers will opt not to use the hormone or antibiotic injections but then they feed their animals normal silage from GMO crops, or pesticide-ridden grains and grasses.

  • The only type of farming operation not required to display the certified organic label is any operation which sells less than $5 thousand dollars worth of his product per year. This type of operation is usually the local farmer which sells his goods from his door, door-to-door sales or at a local farmers market.

Sometimes local small operations claim to be using organic farming methods but a little research must be done by the consumer to verify this farmer follows all the principles of growing organics.

  • Finding and buying organics in your meat, egg and dairy selections must often be sourced also from a local butcher, rancher or dairy farm. Very few regular grocery stores have the capabilities of carrying a 100% organic product line in their store.

Visit the local farm, examine their operation, ask a few questions of the farmer himself to confirm his growing practices or his method of operations for your own peace of mind.

Alternatively, check with the website Localharvest.org to see if anyone in your area has registered as a certified organic farmer.

Although buying organics is not a 100% perfect guarantee of the absolute best in quality, production, certification and practices (because some variables are beyond even the farmer's control such as wind, weather, climate and some soil characteristics), it is the closest thing to perfection money can buy for you and your family's future health.
