At-Home Care Remedies:
Tested By Time
By Types Of
Alternative Medicine

An allergy is a learned response of the immune system but with some training in at-home care techniques through the different types of alternative medicine, fortunately an allergic response to an allergy trigger can also be unlearned. Often this concept is taught through a technique called the mind/body connection, often referred to as guided imagery. If your body has the capability of learning an incorrect response, the possibility is there it can also un-learn that same incorrect response.

In each of the practicing specialties of alternative medicine, this is the main defining factor that is different between an alternative program and conventional medicine. Conventional medicine techniques only suppress the symptoms or reaction, therefore increasing the toxicity to the body. Alternative therapy programs try to get to the cause of the problem and remove them to prevent future difficulties.

Precipitators Of An Allergic Response

Some of the common situations which may be a factor in the causes of an allergic response include:

  • A possible inherited condition from another family member(s)

  • Cerebral (mind) and / or nervous system involvement

  • Emotional stress

  • Environmental factors (which includes proximity to your known allergen)

  • Diet

Topical At-Home Care Treatments As A First Line Of Defense

As with any other medical problem, a visit with your doctor is first recommended to rule out any other serious condition. If an allergic response is indicated, there are some at-home care treatments which may bring possible relief. Each of these can be used to prevent you from having to rely on antihistamines, steroids or prednisone which are commonly prescribed in conventional medicine. Each of these pharmaceuticals do have a list of contra-indications which can be harmful or uncomfortable for some people. Therefore check with your local health foods store and see if you can get the following:

  • stinging nettle or quercitin are both commonly used to reduce the symptoms of an allergy

  • topical remedies such as cornstarch or colloidal oatmeal can be added to your bath water ( the most often recommended formula by a pharmacist is Aveeno Bath Treatment in the local pharmacy). A prescription is not needed.

  • homeopathic treatments

  • irritant creams such as Tiger Balm can be applied topically

  • any stinging of the eyes can be relieved with the use of calendula lotion compresses (ready to use pads are available at health food stores) and follow with stinging nettle capsules

Although each of these can be followed as an at-home care program, often, due to the severity of many allergic reactions, it is recommended for your own security you make an appointment for a consultation with your own doctor first before initiating these as your first line of defense.
