Acupuncture Points: Healing With Needles In Types Of Alternative Medicine
The use of acupuncture points as a method of healing has been around for many centuries in the provinces of China as one of the types of alternative medicine. Pictorial art, texts and documents explaining procedures and an archeological dig found in the late twentieth century has been dated back several centuries. Entombed in this site was a complete set of acupuncture needles used for practicing medicine all these centuries ago. Although many believe the art of acupuncture started about 5,000 years ago, the scholars of the time 3,000 years ago were logging all observations, quotes from medicine men, friends and family, warriors, priests etc.. Any casual mention became written for historical reference. With the advance of years, notations became diagrams, diagrams became textbooks until an entire field of medicine was born and perfected. What Are Acupuncture PointsCurrently there is twelve major pathways or channels which tie together every major organ system in the human body. Located along these pathways are acupuncture points, or an area where from observation and testing, it has been discerned that this "point" is more susceptible to relieving pain, stimulation, energy flow, and raised electrical activity below the skin's surface.Initially, 365 documented points on each side of the body were documented with their corresponding level of treatment. But over time with observation, this number has grown to over 1000 points in the human body. The art of acupuncture therefore uses these points as a gateway to our inner energy flow by using small needles to prick the skin. This tiny prick can stimulate the inner body's natural flow of energy which eventually will restore a body to good health. A well experienced practitioner will generally only need 10-12 needles during any given session. Most people at first hesitate about having needles stuck all over their body. But other than a slight pin-prick, there is no sensation that should be felt. Any qualified practitioner will ask that you tell them if there is discomfort. With a slight adjustment of the needle, the discomfort can be completely eliminated. Obviously, any competent, qualified acupuncturist has had extensive training and practice to learn the basics of each channel, the points and each ones capability. Many years of studying, testing and training are required to learn all the benefits of acupuncture. It is not unusual, but still perplexing to many patients, how a back injury can be "cured" by needles placed in the hands, legs, feet or arms. Any conditions' acupuncture point does not always relate to its location on the body's surface.
